Everyone wants those six-pack abs and that athletic looking body. The issue is not many of us are willing to make the sacrifices and put in the time necessary to attain such a goal. With the prevalence of quick fixes and ‘too good to be true” promises, we all know that nothing comes without some sweat equity, dedication and discipline. Today we will share a few tips on how to naturally boost your metabolism. The typical attitude today is, “How can I get the most out of doing the least?” We are all guilty of this mindset. Our sedentary, technology-filled lives are a big problem as are our poor diets and lifestyle choices. We can attribute those above to the spare tire, the extra pounds and the lethargy we all feel, be it acutely or chronically. There are many studies today showing the correlation between sitting for extended periods vs. smoking and how the former is as harmful as the latter, if not more. Surely you have heard the headline – “Sitting Is The New Smoking.”Not exercising is a huge detriment to your health, eating ultra-processed foods and sugar-laden diets are not only dangerous but killing you slowly. We are all creatures of habits and tend to become complacent. We enjoy our comfort zone and cannot be bothered to change our ways. The only constant in life is change, therefore being resistant to change goes against natural law. Adaptability is our greatest ally and should be applied daily. Below we have compiled a list of action steps you can take to start changing your ways and changing your life. This isn’t a one size fits all as we are all unique, but it is a starting point. We hope it will stimulate you to start using these approaches or to motivate you to find what works for you.For the sake of repetition, please use what works for you and drop what doesn’t. Tips to Naturally Boost Your MetabolismCOLDER TEMPERATURECooler temperatures seem to increase people’s percentages of brown fat — which has been found to act more like muscle than actually fat. White fat is detrimental to our health. Brown fat, on the other hand, is found to be beneficial. Some tips to keeping the white fat/brown fat conversion would include keeping your sleeping temperature in the range of 63-66 Fahrenheit (17-18.5 Celsius) at night. This has been shown to double the amounts of brown fat, which brought on more calories burned and higher metabolism. Another bio-hack for converting white fat to brown is taking cold showers for 30-45 seconds. The reason brown fat betters metabolism is due to the high amount of mitochondria. Mitochondria are little bacterial (good bacteria) organelles responsible for creating energy (ATP) in our body. They are like little generators to supply our body and cells with appropriate energy and survival. STRESS CONTROLThis one is no surprise. Stress seems to be villainized for the majority of our afflictions and with good reason. The stress response or ‘fight or flight’ activates the hormone cortisol. Cortisol in the right amount is essential and healthy for our overall wellbeing, but when it runs astray and takes over, problems arise. One of those problems is high levels of cortisol and has to do with the worsening of our metabolism. This is directly related to the risk of obesity – in the long run. Now, this is a very reductionist and over-simplified explanation, but none the less, this is the genesis of metabolic syndrome. So, look for ways to reduce stress. Do anything that makes you relax. As we are all unique, you will have to try a few of the approaches below to reduce stress. Ways to Reduce Stress:Change Your MindsetChange your Self-Talk – The conversations you have with yourself are a direct reflection of your mindset
Determine the mindset you need and act as if.
have included some great books below. Take Some Time For Yourself• Daily exercise • Reading: There is nothing like sipping on tea in a comfy and cozy spot and reading a good book. If you cannot think of one, we have included some of our favourites below. • Take a walk in Nature The list goes on, so find what works for you and practice it daily. The importance here is that you put yourself first and practice self-loveand self-care. SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEPNot getting enough quality rest plays a huge factor in slowing down the metabolism for both men & women. This is due to the high cortisol release caused by insufficient rest, which is known stress to the body. Now keep in mind that we are referring to quality sleep and not just any kind of sleep. Interrupted sleep is known to have the same side effects as not sleeping enough. Restorative sleep ranges from 7-9 hours of sleep. This range is a guestimate as some people may need more and some less, but the average should be within this range. STRENGTH TRAININGStrength training is a no brainer but needs mentioning. There are numerous studies on the benefits of strength training. We won’t reference any as a simple google search will result in a plethora of studies. We know that any movement, in general, is good for your health, but strength trainingworks best to activate brown fat and reverse metabolism. The simple fact of increasing muscle mass will increase your resting energy expenditure. In a nutshell, this is simply the number of calories you burn when you are not active. Having more muscle mass turns your body into a fat-burning machine, even when you are resting. To your health, wellness and longevity. We hope these tips to boost your metabolism naturally will help you to get started or spark some ideas. Please comment and share your experiences with us. Steemit's friends Then a set of photos of my soursop tree, planted in the patio of my house and a week ago this wonderful fruit is being harvested, considered one of the best for health and especially when it comes to cancer. Very special if you eat the fruit alone, where you must peel and remove the shell and eat the pulp, it is very rich as well as natural. In juice it is also very rich, you can prepare it with or without milk, as you prefer. And if you put it to freeze, you will have very rich ice cream. In addition to the thousands of benefits that it brings to health and perhaps many of us already know which, I will give you a secret, the leaves of the bush of guanabana is considered as relaxing, preparing a tea from these leaves at night, you can sleep like babies. Only 200 Reps from 2 Steemians yesterday, and Steem's price is falling (with lower author rewards), _but I'm still building here._ --- Join in! The 50/50 rep split isn't essential, so long as 100 reps are hit between push-ups and squats for this phase of the challenge, you're a winner. Let's grow this healthy community now by spreading the word and contributing some reps. This is for _your_ health. ------- To people new, see the intro link below. We'll be opening up to other exercise types in due time. I'm trying to keep this simple for now to get everyone assembled and on the same page. What's the challenge? 50 push-ups (modified if needed) and 50 air squats. See my video. If you want to do a different ratio or split, that's fine. Just reach 100 reps from these options and reply below with an affirmation, pic, link, or video. We're on the honor system. If you can't do all of the push-ups, I know you can do squats for the rest. Get involved! ---- #### Highlights: #### - Still posting this when not many people care. ------ #### My Reps: 75 air squats & 25 push-ups #### My legs really felt the 100 squats last night, but doing more is how you grow. I have a baseball practice session tomorrow, so I wanted to save my upper body for that and let my chest recharge a little bit more. I had to jog a little to get somewhere and my legs felt amazing. I feel so much more endurance, stability and speed from just 2 weeks of daily reps. No video today. Just hammered out my reps late at night. ----- #### Net Participation: 9 Steemians from 7 countries for 5,234 reps! #### Day 1: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) - @belemo (NIGERIA) [Video proof.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoztfkYGRSA) Day 2: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) - @belemo (NIGERIA) - [Video with proud smile at the end.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv4pEtnaVb8) - @thevillan (AUSTRALIA) - [Video proof that the Aussie Beast is back.](https://steemit.com/dtube/@thevillan/7vbnd5lha1r) Day 3 - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) - @belemo (NIGERIA) - @joshman (ETHIOPIA) Day 4: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) [2:19 Video Here](https://archive.org/details/5roudsof10ps.5sq) - @joshman (ETHIOPIA) - @mamalikh13 (IRAN) [Proof Post](https://steemit.com/fitness/@mamalikh13/the-steem-daily-100-rep-fitness-challenge-of-50-push-ups-and-50-air-squats) Day 5: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) [Amazing video here.](https://archive.org/details/50ps50squat) - @belemo (NIGERIA) [Video here](https://steemit.com/fitness/@belemo/100-reps-challenge-day-5) - @celestal (FINLAND) [Video here]((https://steemit.com/fitnesschallenge/@celestal/joining-in-for-steemmatt-s-100-rep-challenge)) Day 6: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) - @joshman (KENYA for travel) Day 7: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) - @belemo (NIGERIA) - @khufu (AUSTRALIA) Day 8: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) - @belemo (NIGERIA) - @khufu (AUSTRALIA) - @joshman (KENYA for travel) Day 9: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) In superhuman time of 1:43! - @joshman (KENYA for travel) - @khufu (AUSTRALIA) 120 reps... solid. - @bitfiend (USA) - Day 10: - @steemmatt (USA) - @rmsbodybuilding (UK) - @belemo (NIGERIA) - @khufu (AUSTRALIA) No sleep, no excuses! - @bitfiend (USA) Manned up to do his 100 and some extra different reps!! Day 13: - @steemmatt (USA) - @khufu (AUSTRALIA) Thank you. ------- To any interested Steemians who want more info/background: *Please see this [link from the kickoff post](https://steemit.com/fitness/@steemmatt/putting-back-the-manual-into-fitness-restarting-the-steem-daily-100-rep-fitness-challenge-with-50-push-ups-50-air-squats) for details. Everyone please support and encourage the team here. They're working hard to build a community the hard way. It's about the bigger picture. Make sure you go 90 degrees with your elbows and legs, with your back straight, on each rep. Feel free to help others if they look like that can use some advice. Again, this is just a baseline of activity for the day. This will be far from all I do on most days, and the same can go for you. --- ### Markets and spirits may be down now, but our health should always be on the rise. ### ### We don't always need an app and tokens for everything, or to worry about things we can't control. ### ### Worry about what we _can_ control. Let's put the human back into fitness here and you _will_ see and feel the results. ### Rep on, @steemmatt P.S. - Please use the fitnesschallenge tag if you can. Wednesday was a good day! A day which I would call a new start of my life. Trying to be more like how I was when I was younger (read previous post). In the morning I had a banana and a coffee and went to the tennis court. Although I wasn't that fit on the tennis court, I had a good training. After that I spend an hour on the balcony reading and then went to work on finding myself a data science job the rest of the day. I also didn't do any groceries and just ate what was left in my fridge. I try to make myself just some simple meals like: quinoa or a whole grain with beans or tofu, some greens and some other vegetables. Simple but good. In the evening I put on the television to watch Ajax and didn't do much more after that. GoalsI did do almost everything on my list. Only the fun goals... Well, I will see writing here also as a fun goal from now on, so I will check that one also. The rating of the day would be a 10 if I didn't had any issues with my neck again. I will see the dentist for that in a few weeks, because it could be that my teeth don't fit on each other in a right way, which causes the pain in the jaw and neck.
